FAQs

  • Explain the FSTS class and the food safety managers certification.

After registering for the class you will receive confirmation of your enrollment by mail in 7-14 days. You will also receive: a receipt of your payment; confirmation enrollment letter with time, date and location of class included; a workbook and practice test to help you with your home study prior to coming to class.

Time: The class is from 8:30-5:00 PM (with a short lunch break). Testing starts at 3 PM. and ends at 5:00 PM.  All those who signed up for the Challenge Test should arrive at the testing center shortly before 3 PM.

Certification: You will be earning a National Registry Food Safety Managers Certification.  This certification is recognized all over the nation and remains active for 3 years. 

  • Where are you located?

FSTS does not have a physical office and so payments or material can not be physically exchanged unless special arrangements are made by phone.  

Testing Center: Classes are held at the OSU County Extension Office - 4115 E 15th Street (Gate 6 at the Fair Grounds - just down from the Tulsa County Health Department). You may arrive at the building starting at 8:15am and come in the front door.  Remember to bring your workbooks to class with you.              

  • How important is it that I study the Food Safety workbook and materials ahead of time?

It is essential that all enrollees take the time to study the important information that is necessary for them to 1.)pass the exam 2.) have the knowledge that will be used on a daily basis to keep the public safe.

  • What is the test like and what is a passing score?

The test consists of 80 multiple choice questions. You must pass with a 75% or better score.

  • When will I be notified of my score?

You will be notified of your exam score by mail within 7-14 days. 

  • How long will it take before I receive my official certificate in the mail?

Once a passing score has been issued The Official National Registry Food Safety Managers Certification will be sent out and you should receive it in 3-4 weeks after taking the exam.

  • What do I do if I do not pass?

If you are informed that you earned less then the 75% required score you will need to call (918)252-3778 to schedule a time that you can retake the exam. Look at optional dates on the website before calling. You will incur a small charge of $25.00 for a retake of the examination.

  • Once I receive my Professional Food Managers Certification documents what is the next step?

After receiving the official National Registry Food Safety Certification you should go to the County Health Department and register yourself as a Certified Food Safety Professional. They require a registration fee- Tulsa County Health Department is $15.00.

  • How long is this certification good?

The certification is good for three years. Before your expiration date arrives just call us up to RE-CERTIFY.

  • Do I still need a food-handlers card?

No. The Food Safety Managers Certification supersedes that certification.

  • What happens if an emergency arises and I need to re-schedule?

We understand that emergencies do arise and schedules need to be altered. If you need to move your date it is allowed to be changed one time only without incurring additional charges. 

  • Where can I get a copy of the 2005 Food Code?

  • Does FSTS ever travel to corporate locations and present the classes?
